Why is Good Friday Good?-Good Friday


I used to wonder why Good Friday was called good. What was so good about the day that my Savior died a horrible death?

The Bible tells us "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God" (Romans 3:23 KJV). Everything in life consequences, including sin. Hebrews 9:22 tells us "And almost all things are by the law purged with blood; and without shedding of blood is no remission." The price for sin, is death. We deserve the consequences of our actions, all of us. Romans 6:23 states "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." Jesus' death was His gift to us. He death gave us hope, the hope of Salvation and forgiveness of sin. "But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us" (Romans 5:8 KJV) He loved us enough to willingly be tortured, nailed to a cross, all while be separated from God the Father; bearing all the sins of the world, past, present, and future so we could be Saved. To me, that sounds pretty good.

89 years ago today, Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King Jr. was born. 55 years ago, he gave his famous I Have a Dream  speech. Doctor King's beliefs on race not only stemmed from the oppression African Americans face but also Biblical beliefs. From a purely human point of view, it should be clear that people of all races should be treated as equals. Looking from a Biblical point of view like Doctor King did, it becomes even more clear. Anyone that uses the Bible to back racism is going against God's will and nature, and is in sin. Romans 2:11 (KJV) states "For there is no respect of persons with God." God does value one over another. I am not more valuable to God than any of His other children. Galatians 3:28 (KJV) shows us that in the Gospel, to God we are all the same. He loves equally. Oh Wonderful, Terrible Change

      Change can be a wonderful thing, a terrible thing, or even both. This last May I graduated high school and will be attending the University of Wisconsin-Richland next fall. This is both wonderful and scary at the same time as college is quite different from high school. Classes will be run differently and will also be harder academically. I will also have to get used to all new people. My pastor and his family are also moving away and this is very hard on me. My pastor was also my choir teacher for three years and his wife serves as a mother figure to me. I am also very close to their kids. However, whatever may come, I know I can always trust God and give my worries to because of what it says in Isaiah 41:10 (KJV) "Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness." What Music Means to Me

Music has always had a very special place in my heart. I was in choir starting in 8th grade all the way through high school. The choir room became a refuge and my happy place at school. Whenever I was having a bad day I knew that I could at least look forward to choir. When I would get there, it helped me to cope. There have been many times when I have gone to the choir room either during a study hall or after school and just cried. My choir director Mr. Thompson (who also happens to be my pastor), has been a tremendous help to me. For some of our concerts, we would have teachers and other staff member sing with us so we needed additional rehearsals outside of class. These rehearsals would take place at 7 a.m. before school started. Because I live approximately half an hour away from where I went to high school, I would have to get up extra early, around 5:45 a.m. to get ready and out the door. On those days my choir teacher would pick me up and we would always stop and get coffee.
